Independently setting up something is a new trend which we are seeing now in many fields. Especially, as soon as the internet became stronger, a lot of people could have extended their wings freely. We get to see an enormous number of YouTubers make their content on comedy, roasting, film-reviewing mostly so as to be the centre of attention for a short time. We as an audience are very much responsible because we literally don't want any kind of so-called "serious" content.
If we look at our Bengali YouTube community specifically, the picture isn't that different. We don't have many YouTube channels or sites which speak on our socio-political scenario and they must not necessarily be news channels. Though there are few, we don't popularise them because of having disinterest in "serious" content.
When some mainstream media channels are being polarised to appease a certain section of society, we often have to depend on the independent media. But here I must also put up a disclaimer that something independent is not always unbiased. I can show there are a number of YouTube channels, Facebook pages, as Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India, Ravish Kumar purportedly called "Godi Media", only exhibiting facts for a specific section of the society. So we have to be careful before getting any facts or news.
I found some independent news channels on YouTube, but in Hindi and English. I think if you want to serve a larger demographic, it's better to make content in your mother tongue. For this particular reason, we want more such YouTube channels in Bengali. Besides, we, the viewers, have to accept their content, support them, as well.
But at last, I have to say what you'll see/accept independently is an independent personal matter in independent India – it's up to you.
